Prof. Camran Nezhat’s

Gift to the new Simulation Centre

On September 25, 2026, Paula Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital in Riga officially opened a new Simulation Centre. The Centre was inaugurated by Minister of Health Hosams Abu Meri, together with Prof. Dainis Krieviņš and representatives of the hospital leadership. It will provide physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals with a modern and safe environment to develop practical skills, practice teamwork and train for a wide range of clinical situations. The Centre will include more than 40 simulators and training manikins and will provide opportunities for healthcare professionals from across Latvia.

An important contribution to the Centre came from internationally renowned American gynecologic surgeon Prof. Camran Nezhat, whose $20,000 donation, facilitated through the Latvian Medical Foundation (LMF), was directed toward the development of the Simulation Centre.

Prof. Nezhat is internationally recognized as one of the leading specialists in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and the surgical treatment of endometriosis. His professional connection with Latvia began with his visit in 2025, when he participated in an international conference at Pauls Stradins Hospital, conducted masterclasses and live surgical demonstrations, and shared his expertise with Latvian physicians. His connection with Latvia has continued beyond that visit, and his contribution to the Simulation Centre is a meaningful expression of this ongoing cooperation.

The Latvian Medical Foundation is pleased to have helped build a bridge between Prof. Nezhat and the Latvian medical community and to have facilitated his contribution to a project with a lasting impact on medical education in Latvia.

Prof. Nezhat’s gift is therefore an investment not only in the Centre itself, but in knowledge, skills and the future of Latvian medicine.

LMF extends its sincere gratitude to Prof. Camran Nezhat for his generosity and for helping turn professional cooperation into a lasting contribution to healthcare education in Latvia.
